Driving a 'Race to the top' in Vietnam

From implementing the ZDHC MRSL right through to adopting ZDHC Gateway solutions

The 'Race to the Top' is a collaborative effort between the Vietnamese government (including the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, MONRE), the Vietnamese Apparel and Footwear Industry, global consumer brands (Gap Inc., NIKE, Inc. , M&S, Levi Strauss & Co.), international organisations, and civil society organisations.

The 'Race to the Top' programme was created to demonstrate the significant returns achievable when manufacturers advance toward sustainable practices.

As part of its work to support this programme, The Implementation Hub provided Chemical Management Guidelines, which were adopted by Vietnamese public partners. The guidelines can also be used by textile and garment enterprises to improve their chemical management.

These guidelines address three key areas:

1.   Building and evaluating a prevention and response plan for chemical incidents

2.   Developing safer products

3.   Enhancing the use of renewable materials

In the long-term, the successes of this project can be replicated in other up and coming apparel markets.
